Creating a favourites icon - Favicon.ico
To create a bookmark icon that stands out from the rest of a list of bookmarks - for example, in the bookmark list shown below, the Photo Gallery icon draws the eye because it is different to the standard Internet Explorer icon. Unfortunately this only works in Internet Explorer 5.0
To create one of these icons.
Step 1
Download an icon editor from the web. For example, IconEdit32
a freeware icon editor.
Alternatively visit www.favicon.co.uk and create your favicon online!
Step 2
Create your icon. This will have the dimensions 16x16 and 16 colour's and
the extension .ico
Step 3
Save your icon as Favicon.ico in the directory of the page you want to draw
attention to when bookmarked.
Step 4
Add the following line into the <HEAD> tag of your HTML page:
<LINK REL= "SHORTCUT ICON" HREF= "http://www.yoururl.com/favicon.ico" >
Your bookmarked page will now stand out from a list. A simple marketing trick!!

Disclaimer: Sometimes for no apparent reason the favicon's don't show up!
